Completion of this course provides the skills and knowledge to practice as a Myotherapist within a clinical setting as an independent practitioner or as a member of a team within a health care clinic. A Myotherapist is a health practitioner who is trained to assess and treat various musculoskeletal pathologies.
The vocational outcomes of the Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy are to:
Manage health risks in a myotherapy environment; including aspects of health risk analysis, personal and premises hygiene, as well as infection prevention and control.
Work effectively within a myotherapy framework; including working within clinic and regulation guidelines, achieving quality standards, as well as undertaking ongoing performance development and working with other services/networks.
Perform myotherapy clinical assessment; including accurately gathering and interpreting information using clinical reasoning to assess a patient’s condition in order to provide myotherapy treatment.
Plan myotherapy treatment strategy; including negotiating with the patient.
Apply knowledge of pain science within a myotherapy clinical setting in order to develop and implement pain management strategy for patient.
Develop, implement and evaluate patient-centred corrective exercise programs.
Provide myotherapy treatment according to the techniques and practices of a myotherapy framework.
Provide myofascial dry needling treatments.
Research and evaluate relevant information and apply findings to own myotherapy clinical practice
Employ communication techniques to establish, build and maintain relationships with patients, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
Use a biopsychosocial model within myotherapy practice.

Entry Requirements

Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who:
• Successful completed HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage; or
 • Successful completed HLT52021 Diploma of Remedial Massage; or
 • Hold the HLT50307 Diploma of Remedial Massage and have current membership at a practitioner-level (not affiliate membership) as a Remedial Massage Therapist with one of the following Australian professional associations:
 • Association of Massage Therapists (AMT)
 • Australian Natural Therapists Association (ANTA)
 • Massage Association of Australia (MAA)
 • Myotherapy Association of Australia (MA)
 • Massage & Myotherapy Association (MMA)
 • Australian Traditional-Medicine Society (ATMS)
• Age Requirement: All international students must be at least 18 years old at the time of course application.
 • Academic Requirement: Successful completion of Australian Year 12 or the Australian/overseas equivalent is mandatory.
 • English Language Requirement: English language tests: Students must achieve an English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.0 with no score lower than 5.0 for all courses.*
 • MIA Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND): The student is required to complete the MIA Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) test to ensure that the student has the ability to complete the course;

The delivery is classroom-based with students completing in-class activities, presentations, discussion, and assessment tasks which include:
practice exercises that reinforce the required practical skills.
learning activities in the training environment in small groups and pairs.
using textbooks, reference material and handouts to support learning.
independent reading, preparation, and learning exercises.
assessment tasks.
Learning styles are catered to by using whiteboard illustrations, multimedia presentations, oral instructions with handouts and interactive learning through role plays, case studies and supervising the practical implementation of skills.
Delivery had been timetabled to ensure students develop theoretical skills and knowledge and demonstrate practical skills in a class situation before commencing project assessment tasks.

Recognition

An application can be made for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) when the student believes that they have already attained the necessary skills and competencies elsewhere (work, other study etc.) or have an equivalent qualification or part of a qualification. MIA recognises the AQF qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by any other RTOs and grants credit for these towards an award where applicable. The application for RPL and/or Credit Transfer should be lodged prior to or immediately after the enrolment.
